Selective laser trabeculoplasty

SLT (Selective laser trabeculoplasty) is a modern approach to the treatment of open-angle glaucoma.

The technique consists of a laser beam effects on trabecular meshwork chamber angle and relieving swelling of aqueous humor from the anterior chamber space, leading to lower intraocular pressure.

The laser seals small force of 0.3 to 2 mJ, the size of 400 microns, in a very short pulse intervals of 3 nanoseconds, minimizing thermal effects on the tissues of the eye, and leads to efficient trabeculoplasty.

The goal of laser cells are pigmented melanin, while the surrounding eye structures remain intact. Its selectivity allows us to repeat the treatment several times, if it's needed.

When using power from 0.6 to 1.2 mJ we get "champagne effect", that is creation of cavities and tiny bubbles of trabecular network as one of the signs of the effectiveness of the treatment.
